Semi-permanent eyeliner is a cosmetic tattoo procedure where pigment is deposited into the lash line or eyelids to create a permanent eyeliner. Shape thickness and style can vary according to client’s preferences. Although it is permanent the color will gradually fade over time, and one will need to do touch up over the years to refresh the look, hence it is also known as semi-permanent eyeliner.
Yes, it is a safe procedure. However, it also depends on various factor such as, the expertise of the artist, quality of the pigments used, and maintaining hygiene and safety protocols. It is advisable to do thorough research before doing any permanent makeup procedure to avoid potential risk such as, allergic reactions, infections and dissatisfaction of the results. Following pre and post procedure carefully to minimize such risks.
- Do not wear contact lenses during the procedure.
- Avoid all the blood thinning medications.
- Do not drink alcohol and coffee 24 hours prior the procedure.
- Do not wear false lashes. Discontinued lashes serum 4-6 weeks prior as serum cause the eyelid skin become thinner which can lead to more painful procedure.
- No eye makeup for 3-5 days after the procedure.
- No facial products around the eye area for at least 3 days.
- Avoid excess moisture such as swimming, sauna, steaming for 5 days after the treatment.
- Avoid excessive sun exposure.
- If the client experience itchiness, or matter in their eyes after the treatment or within 24 hours, it can be a corneal abrasion. In this case, they should try an eye bath and avoid touching or rubbing the eye. Corneal abrasions are pretty superficial and it should subside within 24 hours.
The procedure can take between 1.5 to 2 hours depending on how thick or thin the client wants. This includes application of numbing and mapping out the perfect shape eyeliner.
The eyeliner’s color typically remains vibrant for approximately 24 to 36 months. After this period, touch-up sessions are necessary to preserve both the vibrancy of color and shape of the eyeliner.
When it comes to doing any permanent procedure, especially around the face, we often hesitate and take extra caution.
