Microblading Eyebrows Before and After: What to Realistically Expect

Microblading Eyebrows Before and After

You have looked at lots of microblading before and after pictures. The eyebrows look perfect. They are full, they look like feathers and they are shaped just right.. What really happens between the "before" picture and the great "after" picture? If you are thinking about getting microblading eyebrows for the time this guide will tell you exactly what to expect. It will take you through everything from your meeting with the microblading artist to when your eyebrows are fully healed.

What Is Microblading? Why Do People Love It?

Microblading is a way of tattooing your skin that's not permanent. It uses a tool with very thin needles to make strokes on your skin that look like hairs. The tool puts color below the surface of your skin so it looks like you have real eyebrow hairs. This means you can have beautiful eyebrows without having to use makeup every day.

Maybe you have eyebrows that're too thin because you plucked them too much or maybe you have a disease that makes your hair fall out. Maybe you just want to wake up with eyebrows every morning. Whatever the reason microblading can really change your life. At Elora's PMU we have helped more than 800 people in India and other places get the eyebrows they want. We think that if you know what to expect you will be happier with your microblading experience.

So let's talk about what happens when you get microblading.

Before You Get Microblading: The Meeting and Preparation

The Meeting

To get microblading results you need to start with a good meeting with the artist. The artist will look at the shape of your face, the type of skin you have and how thick your eyebrows are. What you want your eyebrows to look like. This is your chance to show the artist pictures of eyebrows you like and ask questions. The artist will tell you honestly what they can do for you.

It's an idea to bring pictures of eyebrows you like but do not expect your eyebrows to look exactly like the pictures. The best microblading artists will make your eyebrows look great with your face, not just copy someone's Eyebrows.

Making a Map of Your Eyebrows

When you are ready to start the artist will draw the shape of your eyebrows on your skin. They will use a measuring tool to make sure your eyebrows are even and look great on your face. You will get to approve the shape before the artist starts putting color on your skin. This is your chance to say something if you do not like the shape.

Getting Ready for the Procedure

The artist will put a cream on your eyebrows to numb them. This cream will make the procedure feel better. Most people say it feels like pressure or scratching but it's not too bad.

What Not to Do Before Your Appointment

  • Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment.
  • Do not take medicine that thins your blood like aspirin unless you really need to.
  • Do not use face cream or get a chemical peel for at least two weeks before.
  • Do not. Thread your eyebrows for two to three days before.

What Happens During the Procedure

The whole microblading process takes two and a half to three hours. This includes the meeting making a map of your eyebrows numbing them and the actual procedure. The artist will use the microblading tool to make strokes on your skin that look like hairs. They will put color on your skin, in the direction of your real hair.

Most people feel discomfort but it's not too bad. The numbing cream helps a lot. Some parts of your eyebrows might feel a little more sensitive like the ends.

When the procedure is finished your eyebrows will look bold. Defined, but they might look a little too dramatic. Do not worry they will look better when they are fully healed.

The Microblading Healing Process: What to Expect Each Day

Most people do not know what to expect after getting microblading done. The healing process has stages and knowing what is going on will save you from getting stressed.

Days 1 to 3 are usually when your microblading looks really good. Right after you get microblading your brows will look full. By day the colour of your microblading will get darker because the pigment is changing. This is normal so do not worry. Your skin is just starting to heal. It is forming a light layer over the area where you got microblading.

You can expect your skin to be red and your brows might be a bit tender. Your microblading will also look really done.

Days 4 to 7 are when your skin starts to heal and you might get some scabs. Your brows might feel tight and itchy. This is your skin healing.

The important thing to remember is to not touch the scabs. If you pick at the scabs you might pull out some of the colour. That can make your microblading look patchy. It can even leave scars.

Days 8 to 14 are usually when people get a little worried. After the scabs fall off your microblading might look really light. The colour might seem to be gone. But that is okay, it is your skin healing. There is a layer of skin on top of the colour and that is why it looks faded. This is called the "ghost brow" phase. It is a normal part of the microblading healing process.

Days 15 to 30 are when your skin is fully healed. The colour of your microblading will start to show. It will look softer and more natural. By the end of the month your microblading will be healed and you will start to see the final result.

After 4 to 6 weeks you will need to go for a touch-up. This is very important. Everyone's skin heals differently so you might need some adjustments to your microblading. The touch-up is when the artist makes sure everything looks good.

At Elora's PMU they always include a touch-up as part of the process. They want to make sure you get the microblading.

What to Expect from Microblading

You will get brows that look good, with your face shape. Your microblading will look like hair not like it is drawn on. You will have brows all the time even when you wake up or work out. You will not need to put on much makeup. Your microblading will last for a year before you need to get it touched up.

What You Should Not Expect from Microblading

You should not expect your microblading to last forever. It is semi-permanent so it will fade. You should not expect to look like someone because everyone's skin and face are different. You should not expect your microblading to be fully healed in one week because that is not how it works.

How Much Will the Colour Fade

The colour of your microblading will get lighter by 20 to 40% as it heals. This is normal because the artist puts on an extra colour. The touch-up will make sure the colour looks good and lasts for a time.

Factors That Affect Your Microblading Results

Skin Type

Oily skin breaks down pigment fast. If you have skin you might need to get touch-ups more often. Your microblading lines might look softer because of the skins oils.

Sun Exposure

The sun's rays are bad for keeping pigment looking good. When you're outside, always put on sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher on your healed brows. Wear a hat.

Skincare Ingredients

Some skincare products like retinol and glycolic acid make pigment fade faster. If you use these products try not to put them on your brow area. Use them less often in that area.

Age and Skin Condition

Older skin or skin that's been tattooed before might hold onto pigment differently. A good artist will think about this when they talk to you.

Aftercare: What You Need to Do to Protect Your Results

Taking care of your microblading is super important. Follow these steps:

For the 7-10 days:

  • Keep your brow area completely dry. No water, sweat or steam.
  • Don't put makeup on your brows.
  • No skincare products in your treated area.
  • No swimming saunas, steam rooms or super intense workouts.
  • Sleep on your back so you don't touch your brows.
  • Don't pick, scratch or peel your skin.

After healing:

  • Put on SPF 30. Higher on your brows when you're outside.
  • Don't put retinol or chemical exfoliants on your brow area.
  • Don't use tanning beds.
  • Schedule a check-up to keep your microblading looking good.

Who Is an Ideal Candidate for Microblading?

Microblading is good for adults. It's especially great for:

  • People with uneven eyebrows.
  • Those who are losing hair because of age, a condition or cancer treatment.
  • Anyone who wants to make their beauty routine simpler.
  • People with eyebrows who want a more balanced look.
